If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free in deed.”

                                                                                                John 8:36

Jesus was speaking to those Jews who believed on Him (vs.31). The context is dealing with sin (vs34). Our Lord says that if we believe in Him and continue in His word that we are free indeed. As I ponder this truth spoken by God Himself I have to ask this question: Was Jesus lying?  Many of you may have been taken back and even offended by that question. But in reality there are only two possible truths here: Jesus was either speaking the truth, or, He was lying.

I have been around just long enough to see a vicious cycle in the church today that absolutely breaks my heart: So many brothers and sisters who profess faith in Jesus Christ who continually choose to return to a life of HABITUAL SIN. The results of which are devastating; broken homes, shattered lives, and ruined relationships. Is this why Jesus died on Calvary? God’s word answers this question with a resounding no! When we say that Christ has made others free but not us, we make Him a liar. We pray: Lord deliver me from sin! The fact of the matter is HE ALREADY HAS! While pinned to the tree Jesus cried: “It is finished!” Literally: It is accomplished! What is accomplished? Romans tells us that Jesus dealt the deathblow to sin at the cross. No longer do we have to live under sins power. Imagine a vicious dog without teeth. It can bark at you and snarl at you but it doesn’t have the ability to bite you. This is how the finished work of the cross has rendered sin. It is still there crying out to you, tempting you, but its teeth have been removed. Sin no longer has power over you as long you abide in Christ. Jesus says: “Abide in me…for apart from Me you can do nothing.” The answer lies in abiding in Christ. I believe that it is time for the church to stop the programs, which amount to nothing more than works of the flesh. Our Father is calling us back to simplicity: Christ crucified! Abiding in Him! If we will simply believe in what Christ has done without adding or taking away from it. Then we will see hearts set free and God will get the glory!

Was Jesus lying or speaking the truth? I want to assure you that Jesus was speaking the truth! You will know the truth and the truth will make you free! (John 8:32) What is truth? JESUS IS THE TRUTH! “I am the way the truth and the life, no man come to the Father but by me”

So be encouraged today! Abide in Jesus Christ and the freedom He has given you!
